The tank lorry involved in the incident was leased and operated by Marwat Enterprises and was transporting fuel from Shell Pakistan’s Terminal in Kemari, Karachi to Vihari, near Multan.  Shell Pakistan is assisting the authorities with their investigations into the cause of the incident and has also started its own investigation.

Shell Pakistan continues to work to support immediate relief efforts, which include providing food to more than 200 affected families, as well as medical aid.

Road safety is a priority at Shell.  Contractors are required to ensure that vehicles used to transport Shell fuels undergo regular maintenance and checks to ensure roadworthiness, and Shell Pakistan has a dedicated team focused solely on road safety and transport.  This team works closely with Shell Pakistan Limited contracted hauliers to help them train their staff and drivers on road safety and technical skills.
